SUE ROURKE
Sue is a fully qualified integrative counsellor with extensive experience working with both individuals and couples. In our practice, she focuses specifically on couples counselling. She offers face-to-face sessions in Pickering, York, and Harrogate, as well as online appointments for greater flexibility and accessibility.

With a rich and varied life background, Sue brings deep empathy and understanding to her work. She ran her own business for many years while raising a family and caring for aging parents.

Her personal journey has included navigating mental health challenges within her family, which at times affected her own wellbeing. These experiences give her a genuine insight into how relationships can become strained, and how easy it is to drift apart—focusing on survival over connection, and avoiding difficult conversations just to get through daily life.

Sue’s path into mental health work began after she sold her business and started working with children in care who had experienced trauma. This passion led her to train and qualify as a counsellor. She has since worked within a GP practice and now runs a thriving private practice of her own.

Her approach is rooted in well-established psychological theories and practices, including Psychodynamic Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Imago Relationship Therapy. She is a verified member of the BACP, Counselling Directory, and Psychology Today, having successfully completed their required assessments.

Sue is known for her direct, down-to-earth style. She works compassionately, at your pace, with the aim of achieving meaningful results. Her sessions offer a safe, non-judgmental space where you can voice your concerns and work through them together. She meets you where you are—rooted in the realities of everyday life, not just self-help ideals.

Sue works with all types of couples and relationship structures. She also provides support around a wide range of sexual concerns, including mismatched libidos, loss of attraction, exploration of kink, navigating polyamory, and other unique relationship dynamics.

Whether you’re looking to reconnect, rebuild, or face difficult decisions, talking about your relationship in a supportive and open environment can bring clarity and direction. Sue’s counselling process is designed to guide you toward healing, deeper understanding, and a path forward that aligns with your needs and values.
